Soft skills are essential for future engineers because they complement technical expertise, enabling effective collaboration, communication, and problem-solving in diverse teams. We will often work on complex projects that require teamwork, leadership, adaptability, and the ability to communicate ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical people. These skills help engineers manage conflicts, navigate changing environments, and drive innovation in dynamic work environments. In an increasingly globalized world, soft skills are crucial for building professional relationships and ensuring projects succeed.
Asking the expert for advice
In my first year I had the chance to speak with Fabien Raynaud, team leader and senior manager at Dassault Systems. Speaking with him, we discussed the goal of an engineer, what are our global missions and how to succeed in solving problems.
He started as a technical engineer and transitioned to a manager. He explained why he transitioned and what it changed for him. This guidance will prove extremely helpful in the future when the same choices will appear in front of me.
As a whole, I would like to thank him for all his guidance and his time to help growing engineers.
